What’s the difference between an Australian Stock Saddle and a Half Breed Saddle?
A half breed saddle is a mix between a western saddle and a stock saddle, therefore the half breed is more similar to western saddle in the seat and feel compared to the Aussie stock saddle. The cantle on a half breed saddle has the shape of a western saddle rather than a english/stock saddle rounded shape.
An Australian stock saddle on the other hand is a mix between a western saddle and a dressage saddle. It features the long large flaps (same as dressage saddles) but also has the large knee blocks and a deeper seat.
It all comes down to the riders preference but in general are half breed saddles more popular amongst western riders who are transitioning to an Australian saddle as there is not a huge difference in the position of the legs and seat. The traditional stock saddle on the other hand might be more suitable for an english rider that is trying a stock saddle as it still has the normal stirrup leathers and large solid flaps.
